1. 'Happy Reading 101' - Ministry of Education Reading Improvement Plan for Elementary and Junior High Schools
- Concept:
Funding assistance will be provided to individual county and city governments to help them implement reading improvement plans. The main emphasis will be on improving the way in which reading is taught, increasing the amount of time allocated for reading, expanding the facilities and content of elementary and junior high school libraries, encouraging schools and kindergartens to promote family reading activities, and getting different sectors within society to work together to promote reading. It is anticipated that the implementation of this Plan will help students to develop a love of reading, while also encouraging schools to position reading as a "core value," and getting parents to spend more time reading together with their children. - Implementation period: 2009 to 2016 (From 2011 onwards, the Plan will be implemented as a routine task, rather than as a special project)
- Budget: The (estimated) total funding required will be NT$2,601 million.
- Manner of implementation: The central government will provide funding support to individual county and city governments to help them implement the Plan.
- Agencies in-charge: Ministry of Education (Department of Elementary Education), and individual county and city governments.
